Organized 10 Series of College Campaign on “Youth, WASH and SDG”

On December, 2019 Paschim Paaila in collaboration with ENPHO, completed 10 series of College Campaign on Youth, WASH and SDG which was initiated on February, 2019 to enhance their capacity and knowledge on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). The program was organized on December 18 and 20, 2019, the campaign was organized at National Academy for Medical Studies (NAMS) at Old Baneswor to students of first and third semester.

The ‘College Campaign’ program with aims to encourage youths to involve in various WASH related social issues, to motivate them to act as Youth WASH ambassador and to sensitize them on importance of WASH to create environmentally healthy community and support nationwide WASH activities to achieve SDG goal 6. This program highlighted basics and facts on WASH and its national and worldwide status including areas of WASH that has to be addressed and requires special roles of youth to achieve the goal.

Altogether, 54 students of Bachelor in Public Health actively participated in the program. The program was held in two days with 25 students of first semester on 18 December, 2019 in facilitation of Ms. Anita Bhuju, Network Coordinator of Paschim Paaila and Ms. Lasata Manadhar, Resource Center Associate and with 29 students of 3rd semester on 20 December, 2019 in facilitation of Ms. Anita Bhuju and Ms. Ritu Sharma, Senior Resource Center Associate.

"Being student of public health, I have interest on Research and Campaigns. I gained knowledge on WASH, SDG and Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) and gave me an idea on campaign. Also, I am motivated to volunteer/work in the sector of WASH, SDG and specially FSM" - Ms. Pushpa Giri, NAMS College, BPH 1st Semester.

Youth WASH Concern Workshop-XV Series

Youth WASH Concern Workshop (YWCW) is regular program of Paschim Paaila in collaboration with ENPHO to enhance capacity of youths in the WASH sector. This two days 15th “Youth WASH Concern Workshop - XV Series” was organized in the Thames International College, Old Baneshowr on 9 and 10 March, 2019. The main objective of the workshop was to capacitate youths as WASH ambassadors empowering with WASH knowledge and to take initiatives to sensitize community to become environmentally healthy.

The workshop incorporated group activities and presentations from resource persons to improve knowledge and skills of participants to advocate to improve WASH status. The workshop integrated the components of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Fecal Sludge Management (FSM), Behavior Change Communication (BCC) and Emergency including basics of WASH such as status of WASH, drinking water treatment options, sanitation status and  policy and hygiene promotion.

Participants were provided with motivational session on Youth Leadership in WASH. At the end, participants also shared group-wise plans of actions as their initiatives as a WASH leader to promote the knowledge on WASH to the people of selected community/slum and students of school/college.

Altogether 19 active students of public health, environmental science, social work, development studies and civil engineering faculties attended the program.

First College Campaign Program on Youth, WASH and SDG

From this year 2019, Paschim Paaila has newly initiated ‘College Campaign’ program with the aim to aware and empower young college going students to enhance their capacity and knowledge on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). This ‘College Campaign on Youth, WASH and SDG’ will be organized in various colleges of Kathmandu valley.

The main objective of the program is to encourage youths to involve in various WASH related social issues, to motivate them to act as Youth WASH ambassador and to sensitize them on importance of WASH to create environmentally healthy community and support nationwide WASH activities to achieve SDG goal 6. WASH as a major concern of SDG, knowledge on WASH among youths still needs to be expanded. This program highlights basics and facts on WASH and its national and worldwide status including areas of WASH that has to be addressed and need special roles of youth to achieve the goal.

In collaboration with ENPHO, Paschim Paaila organized its first College Campaign in Khwopa College located in Dekocha, Bhaktapur on January 29, 2019.  Ms. Urmila Lama, Executive member of Paschim Paaila resided as resource person for the program. Altogether, 20 students of Bachelor of Environmental Science have actively participated in the program. Ms. Anita Bhuju, Network Coordinator, facilitated the overall program.
