युवामाझ काठमाडौँको खानेपानीको गुणस्तरको बहस

काठमाडौ भुकम्पको खतरा रहेको विश्वको पहिलो जोखिमपूर्ण भएपनि यहाँको खानेपानीको कुनै पनि स्रोत सुरक्षित नरहेको तथ्यखुलेको छ । 

राजधानीमा आयोजित कार्यक्रममा सो कुरा काठमाडौ उपत्यका खानेपानी लिमिटेड (केयूकेल)का महाँकाल प्रमुख राजीबजोशीले बताउनु भएको हो । उहाँले भन्नुभयो, “केयूकेल यस्ता खालका अध्ययन गर्नका लागी आर्थिक रुपमा सक्षम छैन ।”.

साथै, विभिन्न दातृ निकाएको सहयोगमा निर्माण गरिएका ट्रिटमेन्ट प्लान्ट भुकम्पबाट कति सुरक्षित छन् भनेर कसैले पनि अध्ययन नगरेको उहाँले बताउनुभयो । विरशमशेरकै पालामा निर्माण गरिएका पाइप लाइन पुननिर्माण नगरी प्रयोगमा ल्याउनु नै यहाँको मुख्य समस्या हो भन्नुभयो ।

त्यस्तै, जनस्वास्थ्य तथा वातावरण संस्था (एन्फो)का उपकार्यकारी निर्देशक अमरेश प्रसाद कर्मचार्यले केयूकेलको खानेपानीको स्रोत खानेपानीका लागी स्तरिय भएपनि भुकम्पका दृष्टिबाट असुरक्षित भएको बताउनुभयो ।

त्यसैगरी, एन्फोका प्रोमोशनल मेनेजर राजेश अधिकारीले खानेपानीका स्रोत सुरक्षित गर्न हामीले हाम्रो बानी सुधार गर्न आवश्यक रहेको बताउनुभयो । वाश फोरम , एन्फो र “पश्चिमपाईला” बाट संयुक्त रुपमा आयोजना हुदै आएको छ । कार्यक्रममा विभिन्न क्षेत्रबाट ४० भन्दा बढी युवाको सहभागीता रहेको थियो ।

School Water Awareness Program was organized in St. Xavier College with the support of students group, Partners In Education (PIE) in the college premises on 21st March, 2011 on the occassion of World Water Week-2011.

Around 40 participants took part and most of them were students of school level where as few were the students of social work studying in the same college.

The first part was focused on the water and safe water, Sources of water contamination, purification of water, different techniques to purify water, etc. which was led by Ms. Kamala KC, “paschim paaila”. The students got sensitized about the water borne diseases, how to be safe from it and the process of purification of water.

The second part of the program was about the hand washing techniques was demonstrated by
Merina Shakya, “paschim paaila”.

At last, the awareness song was sung by all the participants.

Empowering community youths through Leadership Training

 With highlighting the aphorism by Danald H. Mc. Gannon "Leadership is action, not position”, Youth Leadership Development Training was organized on 12- 14 March, 2011 at Bisankhunarayan VDC, Lalitpur.

Twenty participants from Chaysal and Paathivara Community along with some other participants from "paschim paaila" and Aviyan Yuwa Samuha were participated the training. The three days residential training program was organized by ENPHO/"paschim paaila" with support from UN-HABITAT Urban Youth Fund in collaboration with Aviyan Yuwa Samuha. The training program was the part of WASH led Youth Empowerment Project in which the leadership capacities of community youths were strengthened. The professional trainer team from Nodan Club and Pragya Management Group facilitated the training program and various participatory tools, games, group discussion, brainstorming, and motivational videos/speech which supported to motivate youths in social activities. The training was mainly focused on self leadership, Team work, group facilitation, communication, social responsibility and appreciative inquiry. "I have got chance to expose my leadership which was hidden before." said, Diman Rai one participant from Pathibhara Community.

P.S. Joshi, UN-HABITAT cheered the participants for completing 3 days leadership training on his speech during closing ceremony and also addressed the importance of youths in community development with objective of UN-Habitat Urban Youth fund. Also, the role of youths and their quality and success story of youths were shared by Bipin Dangol, ENPHO. Likewise, Rajesh Adhikari, ENPHO appreciated all participants for their active participation.

Finally, the training was concluded with the vote of thanks by Miss. Kamala K.C, ENPHO/”paschim paaila".

के तपाईलाई थाहा छ हरेक दिननदि प्रदुषण को कारण बन्ने तपाईको पिसाबमात्रामिलाएर बोटबिरुवामा प्रयोग गरेमा त्यसले दोब्बर उत्पादन दिन सक्ने अनुसन्धानमा संलग्न व्यतिmहरुले बताउनु भएको छ ।
शुक्रबार राजधानीमा “पश्चिमपाईला”  र जनस्वास्थ्य तथा वातावरण संस्था (एन्फो) द्धारा आयोजित कार्यक्रममा उहाँहरुले यस्तो जानकारी दिनुभएको हो ।


कार्यक्रममा खानेपानी तथा ढलनिकास विभागका नवलकिशोर मिश्रले सन् २००३ बाट पिसाबलाई मलको रुपमा आफुले प्रयोग गरेको बताउनुभयो । आफ्नो घरमा ग्यालेनमा पिसाब संकलन गरेर थालिएको यो काम अहिले नेपालका विभिन्न ठाउँमा संचालन गरिएको छ । 


त्यस्तै, पिसाब चोरिको क्रम चितवनको दारेचोकमा बढेको नौलो अनुभव सहभागी समक्ष त्यहाँको ईकोसान अनुसन्धान केन्द«बाट आउनुभएको सिरेन्द« पोखरेलले फरक परिबेशबाट आएका ४० युवामाझ सुनाउनु भएको थियो ।


कार्यक्रममा अनुशन्धानकर्ताले मानव पिसाबको सहि प्रयोग कसरी गर्ने, कति मात्रामा गर्ने लगायतका विषयमा कार्यपत्र प्रस्तुत गर्नुभएको थियो । कार्यक्रमको उदेश्यमाथि “पश्चिमपाईला”का संयोजक  फुर्वा साङ्गे मोक्तानले प्रकाश पार्नुभएको थियो । त्यसैगरी जनस्वास्थ्य तथा वातावरण संस्था (एन्फो) प्रोमोसनल म्यानेजर राजेश अधिकारीले पिसाबको प्रयोग सबैका लागी अत्यन्त महत्वपुर्ण रहेको बताउनुभयो ।

Training and Sharing among University Youths

As a part of WASH Knowledge Sharing Campaign-11, “paschim paaila” conducted one day training on “Hygiene and Sustainable Sanitation” as a part of WASH Knowledge Sharing Campaign-2011 on 17th March, 2011 at ENPHO Hall.

The campaign has been supported by Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) and Center for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST) which has been kicked off from February and continues up to April, 2011. The campaign has intended to share knowledge among college/university youths and empower them for the betterment of their surrounding communities through the activities like Water and POU training, Hygiene and Sanitation Training, CLEAN FRIDAY, school health education program, WASH Sharing Program, WASH Circle formation, etc. in a cyclic process in which the training was a part of this initiative.

Participants were students of Bachelor in public Health from two institutions: National Academy for Medical Sciences and Nepal Institute of Health Sciences. The main objective of the training was to sensitize, empower institutional youths as youth leaders on Hygiene and Sustainable Sanitation with the replication of the knowledge among their respective communities & Schools. The resource person Mr. Rajendra Shrestha said, “Sanitation is forgotten Child today and no one want to take the responsibility though all are responsible for the consequences to come”. He further added yearly two Arab twenty Crore to 3 Arab sixty crore rupees in total is expensed on treatment of Health problems due to Water and Sanitation. Participants expressed their Knowledge through role play, poem recitation and slogans in group during the group work session.

WASH Led Youth Empowerment Project Kicked off

The WASH Led youth Empowerment Project was formally kicked off with the objective of creating environmentally sound and healthy community through youth led WASH promotion. 
The project was implemented in two communities of Kathmandu valley namely Chaysal community of Lalitpur and Pathivara Tole of Kapan VDC.  This project is supported by UN-Habitat Urban Youth Fund and also "paschim paaila" is a grantee of Youth Fund for the fiscal year 2010/11 from Nepal. The technical support is provided by Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO). "The project aimed to empower the local youths of two communities of Kathmandu with the perspective of entrepreneurship in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector" said Giri Khatri, Project Coordinator. "Also, at the end of project more than 50 youths are expected to get skillful training on WASH and they may run their business and career in this sector", he added. "The program will focus on water scarcity, inadequate sanitation and improper hygiene behavior of community people and youths of the community will play as a youth WASH ambassador to create environmentally sound and healthy community and their little effort will also equally accountable," said Phurba Sange Moktan, Coordinator, "paschim paaila". 
Miss. Kamala K.C, Campaign Coordinator, "paschim paaila" said, "We are not only empower the youths but also strengthen our capacity and skill ourselves and create platform for youth engagement through youth to youth approach".  "paschim paaila" is a informal youth network which focused its works in Environmental health and Emergency.
